Blackberry needs a new smartphone for the global market, so it has launched Blackberry Q5. It is cheaper than Blackberry Q10 and has a sturdy QWERTY keypad for the ones who like texting. The Q5 pairs back the specifications to boost the Blackberry 10 line up by 55%.
Blackberry Z10 and Q10 were criticized for their shape and design, but the Blackberry Q5 elevates those qualities and stands out. The Blackberry Q5 is blunt at the edges and the matt plastic errs on the bland side of sturdy. In addition to this, the back panel is non-removable. It is available in various colours but the most preferred one is Black. The keyboard is quick and typing is easy. The keys on the keyboard are more separated than Q10 so as to provide ease while texting. Blackberry Q5 is a 3.1 inch 720X720 touchscreen. In Q5 an LCD TFT Panel is used rather than a Super Amoled screen as in case of Q10. It is a solid panel through which the pixel density is high which makes it look pleasing. The volume and mute keys are along the right edge. It has a 5 MP rear camera. It also has NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
Blackberry 10.1 makes its second appearance in Q5. This is a slightly modified version of QNX-based platform. For QWERTY devices, blackberry 10.1 throws in support for universal search on some other keyboard centric tweaks. For instance, start typing “Text ABC” and you’ll have the option to send a text message to a contact of that name, as well as seeing any search results for the phrase. “Tweet ABC” throws out a new Twitter message and you can do the same with Facebook. There are a few new options included in BBM. Blackberry 10 offers an interface in which you can multi task.
Blackberry Q5 has a 5MP rear camera which is less as compared to 8 MP of Q10. It has been observed that the camera apps in Q5 load quickly unless you trigger it from the shortcut available on the lock screen. The volume down key also acts as shutter release, complete with a loud sound effect that can be turned off. As far as videos are concerned, you can record them in choices of 720p and 1080p recording.
Phone and Battery
Blackberry Q5 has a non-removable 2180 mAh battery. It has a 2 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory. It also has a micro SD card slot that can be expanded upto 32 GB. If it used on an average basis, it works for over 20 hours if you charge it once. It offers 12.5 hours of 3G talk time or up to two weeks of 3G standby if it is fully charged.
You will be excited to hear that the price of Q5 is expected to be half of Q10, but it does not have an RRP: in fact in UK where the sales have already begun, price of Q5 is $477 including tax. It is the best option if you are looking forward to buy a touch and type handset.
